Beaverbrook in Surrey

Originally built in 1866, Beaverbrook derives its name from its most well-known resident, Lord Beaverbrook, a publisher, politician and former Ministry of Aircraft Production for Britain during World War II.

In 2011, his home and two of the surrounding buildings were transformed into a hotel and restored to reflect the period when the politician would have lived here. Artwork abounds in and outside of the home, including a sculpture of the British single-seat fighter aircraft known as a Spitfire, which Beaverbrook doubled the production of during WWII. Theres also a spa, four restaurants, a private cinema (purported to be the first home cinema in Britain),and an activities program that includes a survival skills academy.

The Grove in Hertfordshire

The history of The Grove dates back far before the construction of the beautiful Georgian manor that houses the present-day hotel. Archeologists have found artifacts on the grounds dating to 3000 BC.

Formerly the home of the Earls of Clarendon, the interior of the hotel is quite modern. Even so, there are plenty of activities here to transport you to a bygone era. The hotel offers activities like clay pigeon shooting, hawking, archery, horseback riding and other activities that wouldnt be out of the ordinary in the era when the manor was built.

Lime Wood in Hampshire

A Georgian manor house, surrounded by old wood forests might seem an unlikely place for a music festival, and yet the Lime Wood Hotelis one of the locations for the Smoked & Uncut summer music festival. When not the location of a major party, the house has a quiet elegance that blends past and present, with art-filled grounds, a luxury spa and a working Victorian greenhouse.

Goodwood in Sussex

The estate at Goodwood has been home to the Dukes of Richmond for hundreds of years. In fact, the 11th Duke of Richmond and Gordonowns the property to this day. The Duke and his family live on the property in Goodwood House, while guests stay in the hotel portion of the estate.

The Goodwood Hotel offers stylish rooms and four restaurants. It also makes a great stay for adventure seekers as its the location of several motorsport and horse racing events, and offers flying and race car driving experiences to guests for an additional cost.

Mango-Bacon-Butternut Squash Hash Reviews

  • For me this was too sweet. The sweetness of the mango and the sweetness of the butternut needed some heat or some savoriness to offset it. I think the issue is the description on "one butternut squash" The butternut squash I had , after paring was close to 2 1/2 pounds of squash.. the description shows this to feed 2 people so I cannot imagine anyone being able to eat a pound and 1/4 of butternut. I didnt even put the full amount of squash in as it seemed like way too much for the amount of bacon. So I will make this again, but adjust the squash amount or add more bacon or sausage and some heat

  • I ran out of frozen mango, but I had some roasted squash, bacon and kale in the fridge so thought Id try that combo. Its delicious I think the slight bite of the greens might balance the sweetness of the squash better, anyway -- it was plenty sweet for me without the fruit. I julienned the kale and added it along with some minced garlic after crisping the bacon (and draining all but 2 tbls. of the fat), then added the squash and a dash of white balsamic vinegar. Fantastic side or main dish

  • This was delicious I didnt have thyme or mango but bacon & squash is a great combo. I covered the pan and added a dash of water to help steam the squash during the first half of the cooking. Once it started to soften I took the lid off and let the water evaporate. Squash browned nicely. I paired it with the Simple Slow Roast Chicken recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/simple-slow-roast-chicken/).

  • Peeling and cubing the squash was a pain, but the recipe was very good. I did add some chopped onions for additional flavor. Definitely will make it again

  • Made it exactly according to the directions and all of us (hubby and two teen daughters) loved it. Had it with plain scrambled eggs on the side.

  • Added some white sweet potato and asparagus, used sage instead of thyme. DELICIOUS Will make again.

  • Im always pressed for time, so I picked up some butternut squash that was already peeled and cubed. I used bacon and thyme, but I toasted pecans and added those, as well as some spinach instead of the mango because the squash is sweet enough. The pecans added crunch, and another layer of nutty flavor. I served this with a drizzle of good olive oil. Yum

  • Not sure how a family full of picky eaters would like this but all of them said they loved it I loved how easy it was to make. The only thing I did different was fill the bottom of the pan with bacon (six or seven slices). Great addition to breakfast for dinner meals

  • Pretty good, Me being a bacon lover would do a couple more strips of bacon and maybe add some chopped onion as well, otherwise Im sure Ill be doing this again.

  • I made it exactly as the recipe said and wouldnt change a thing. I really didnt expect to like this, it just sounded unique so I tried it. I served it with pork chops and applesauce and the flavors blended beautifully I will make this again

  • Very tasty. The cubed squash is not previously cooked. I did add about 1/2 cup water to the pan along with the squash and steamed for 5 min then uncovered to brown. It does cook quickly. I added 1 tsp garlic powder, salt and pepper. I added 2 tbsp maple syrup insted of mangoes because of previous comments of the mango being too sweet. Will definitely make this again.

  • Good served with poched egg over it

  • This was delicious. Very unexpected, but good combination of flavors. I added water twice to steam the butternut squash as others suggested and also added 3 small pinches of cayenne pepper. I cooked with 2 mangos and 6 pieces of bacon. It was quite a satisfying scramble. Cheers

  • The recipe needs seasoning help. Other reviewers talk about its sweetness, so I added onion, like others. It needed more. Depending on your taste and size of squash, it needs 1/3 cup of sauted onion or more. I also added a salt-pepper-paprika mix instead of thyme, but it needed more. Curry powder was THE answer. In the end, its just a bit too much squash taste. If I do this again, I would do 4 slices of bacon or some honey ham, 1/2 cup of diced onion, and add 1/2 to 1 Tblsp of curry powder along with some salt.

  • I made it with a little bit of crushed red pepper for heat and loved it

  • I made it with apples instead of mango...DELISH

  • We followed the the recipe, just doubled the bacon It was great, just enough flavor all around. Added 4 scrambled eggs on the side.

  • The thyme didnt seem to fit well. Next time I will try some other herbs.I tried what other reviewers suggested and added some water to soften the squash. It ended up getting mushy, and never crisped up. Maybe giving it a quick zap in the microwave instead would help? This isnt a good meal for making leftovers.

  • We enjoyed this. I did add a potato and some kale to it just because.

  • Didnt have mango, so I used a fresh peach instead. Kept heat high for sweet potato chunks to get a crunchy texture. I kept heat at "6" on my electric range. I used Lawrys seasoning salt instead of plain salt/pepper because I like the cayenne/paprika taste. This turned out fantastic, and I will make again.

  • Not sure what I did wrong but it was not as tasty as I thought it would be. Will try again

  • I like spicy, so I added some red pepper flakes. Delish

  • I used an apple instead of mango, because thats what I had. I also toasted some walnuts and put that in with the apple. Very good.

  • Delicious recipe and perfect for fall. I didnt have fresh thyme and ended up using 2 cloves of minced garlic instead. I also used more bacon to balance out the proportions of the butternut squash.

  • Actually made this twice, since the entire squash was too much for a family of three adults. I also doubled the bacon and cut back on the thyme, but eveyone loved it. Will definitely do again. The mango was good, but I will also try with pineapple.

  • I will make it again exactly as in the recipe. Good enough to serve for company.

  • I added 1/2 an onion, garlic , still blan.Im going to try it again adding some acid to try and bring out some flavor, lemon or apple cider vinegar.I hope it gets better I have a lot of squash ??

  • This is very good Mods: 4 slices of bacon (vs. 3). 4 cups of chopped butternut squash (vs. using the whole squash, which produced 12 cups). I also used 1 TBL fresh Thyme. I forgot the salt & pepper so next time this dish will be even more delicious. The single mango produced about a 1.5 cups. Time saving hints: cut the bacon with sharp scissors vs. trying to chop with a knife, and peel and chop the squash before hand. Any squash not used in the recipe can be seal-a-mealed and frozen. We ate this as our main (and only) dish, but it would also be a fantastic side at your Thanksgiving meal. Highly recommend

  • Made per recipe as we do everytime we try on Allrecipes.com recipe. Gotta tell you, this recipe sounded real tasty. However, the flavor was really lacking when we ate it. The mango didnt really add anything to the dish. The butternut squash was yummy. But this dish needs a lot more to create a lasting flavor. Might make it again, but add onion, garlic and omit the mango. Perhaps serve over rice or noodles to give the dish more body.

  • I made it exactly as written and served it on the side with some baked chicken. It was a little too sweet for my tastes. I think this dish would make more sense as a breakfast side dish served with eggs.

  • OMG. I will make this again it was amazing.

  • I was disappointed with this. I love bacon, I love mangoes, and I love butternut squash, but together they just arent impressive, sadly.

  • Absolutely delicious My husband is still raving about it Made with Bacon Wrapped Cajun Pork Loin.

  • I thought this was too sweet with eggs, but a perfect replacement for the dried fruit stuffing I normally pair my goose with at Christmas. I also added a bit of onion as suggested by a few others.

  • As I am one of those people who hardly ever follows a recipe, and sees them as a place to start, this recipe was a great place to start. I added onion, substituted apple for the mango, red pepper flakes, parsley, and butter. I used the famous Bentons bacon from Tennessee, and that really kicked up the flavor. I am thinking of blending up the leftovers and adding either half and half or coconut milk in my Vitamix to make a creamy butternut squash soup. Its a great recipe

  • Mine got really mushy- any thoughts?

  • No changes with the exception of using hatch chili infused bacon.

  • Tastes great Its also easy to make.

  • I pureed 1.5 c squash with half a bag of bacon bits and a small mango. It was okay, but a little bland.

  • Made this tonight for dinner but put it in a whole wheat tortilla to make burritos... used thick cut bacon and added an extra slice (It still could use more). It is really good I think like one other person said, it is sweet and could never imagine eating it by itself but it is good as a burrito and the savory bacon helps offset it.

  • I did not like it

  • Surprisingly good I used Canadian bacon and frozen mango. I defrosted the mango and it worked well. I will make this again

  • It was absolutely delicious

  • My mom had a giant long-necked pale squash from a neighbor, so I hunted for squash recipes to help her use it up, and spotted this one. It was delicious. We used apple instead of mango, and I had the idea as we started cooking to add some raisins, which turned out nicely. I thought the raisins were a great texture and added some color to the hash. My mom wants to get more bacon so she can make it again soon.

Beef Noodle Shepherd's Pie Reviews

  • Yum This recipie was really good for a quick dinner. (Although it definitely needed some tweaking) I used 6 servings of potatoes to just barely cover the 9x13. I added chopped onions to the beef, and cooked the macaroni for about 10 minutes (until it was done) while adding a little water every few minutes to keep it from burning. I also put gravy over the beef mix, and I put cheese over the potatoes. It turned out great

  • We found the noodles & potatoes to be redundant so I used 1 10 oz box of frozen mixed veggies instead (I partially thawed them 1st). Also, we found this to be too bland for our tastes so I added worcestershire sauce, onion powder, pepper & a couple shakes of Tabasco for more flavor. 6 servings of potatoes left a thin frosting on top. I will use 8 servings the next time.

  • What can you say bad about this recipe? Everyone likes it and its super easy to make after a long day at work. Plus, you can customize it according to your tastes or what you happen to have on hand that day. I always add corn & mushrooms. I also, like other reviewers, make more potatos than the recipe calls for. Ive found that making a serving for 6 (according to the box) covers a 9x13 pan perfectly. We also add the cheese during the last 10 mins of baking - just enough to melt it. Great recipe for a cold winters day Thanks Cathy

  • I used Onion Soup mix (store didnt have beef onion flavor) and it worked out fine. I made enough mashed potatoes for 10 servings (according to product box) - and that was just right. 2 cups of mashed potatoes is definitely not enough to cover a 13x9 pan. I added 1 can of corn, and 1 can of green beans, and topped it all off with both paprika and shredded cheddar cheese. I found that 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef was the perfect amount. Hubby loved it, it was very flavorful and a great comfort food

  • This recipe was simple and super easy. I added 1 can diced tomatoes and used real mashed potatoes instead of instant, added frozen mixed vegetables and I put shredded cheese on top of hamburger mixture before putting mashed potatoes in. I will make this im sure over and over again...

  • I had to use Beef Onion Soup Mix too. This was very good but I would add some vegetables to it the next time i make it.

  • My family loved this. I did not use paprika. Instead I put shredded cheddar cheese on top. It was very good.

  • Very tasty dish that is quick & easy to make. I used 2 lbs ground beef and added some carrots (cubed), canned green beans and corn to make the dish more colorful. Onion soup mix (1 packet) gave the dish a good flavor. Idaho instant potatoes worked very well and was a great time-saver. I used about 8 cups of mashed potatoes in order to get a decent amount to spread on top of the beef mixture (my 9x13 baking dish was full). This is a great 1-dish meal

  • Easy and tasty The best kind of recipe I did add cheese to the top but I think this time I am going to put the cheese between the meat and potatoes. We all loved this one.

  • This is yummy comfort food, but Im giving it three stars because I had to make some changes. After reading the reviews, heres what I did: used 1 1/2 pounds of beef, boiled the noodles separately for 8 minutes (to al dente), added 1 can of cream of mushroom and 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables to the beef, noodle, onion soup mix, and I topped it with 10 servings of instant mashed potatoes and shredded colby jack cheese. Without the cream of mushroom soup, I think it would be good served with beef gravy. Like I said, this is yummy comfort food

  • Delicious definitely a keeper

  • Quick, easy, and yummyFollowed the reciped for the most part with just a few modifications: added canned mushrooms and a can of corn to the meat mixture before putting it in the baking dish. Placed a thin layer of cheese onto the meat mixture and covered with the potatoes per reviewers used 6-8 cups so it would cover the top of the casserole. Sprinkled paprika and after baking for 10 minutes covered top with cheese baked for another 10 minutes. Turned out great If you dont want any crunch in your mix, dont add corn. If you like the crunch corn is the way to go

  • I am always looking for hearty inexpensive good casseroles so this one got my attention. Not my fav. My husband really liked it. Maybe adding a can of cream of mushroom to the ground beef mixture wouldve helped?

  • I thought this was excellent. Quick, easy and full of flavor. I added corn & left out the paprika. We really enjoyed it. Thank you.

  • This was just an "okay" dish for me. It was a bit bland even after adding veggies and cheese. Needs more spices. Very easy to prepare though.

  • The only thing I did different was add shredded cheddar cheese between the meat and potato layer. All my husband had to say about it was, "Now thats a meal"

  • I havent made this however it sounds really good My coment is the the person who said that any dish made with beef should not have "Shepard" in the name. Well, "Sheprds" Pie has been around a long time and always has beef.

  • My family absolutely loved it This is one of the most easiest dinners to prepare. I followed a previous recommendation and made more potatoes than the recipe called for. It was DELICIOUS I was able to find the Knorr beef with onion soup mix someone suggested. I will definitely serve this the next time I need to make a quick dinner.

  • Liked it the first time. Got old by the 3rd time.

  • My family loved this...thank you

  • This was a great, easy recipe. I spiced it up a bit and added carrots and corn. Oh yes, and I too made wayyy more potatoes than the recipe called for and it was perfect (made 8 cups instead of 2). Perfect when you dont have much time and want something great. Awesome comfort food.

  • This recipe was very good even my kids liked it.I made it in the afternoon and warmed up for dinnertime. Definetely doing this one again.

  • This was great and I usually dont like Shepherds Pie. I added some dried onion and garlic powder when browning the meat. I also added a can of mixed veggies and cheddar cheese before adding the potatoes. I will for sure be making this again.

  • I couldnt find beef noodle mix, so I used beef onion soup mix and added corn and green beans. My husband loved it and so did I

  • This recipe was VERY easy and my family ate it pretty well. It is a great recipe to have on hand for those quick dinner nights. I felt like there was something missing, but couldnt figure it out. I did add corn and cheese per other suggestions, making it a whole meal. I will make this again.

  • Maybe some extra noodles, but other than that, this is excellent

  • This was easy and tasty. I,however, added 1 can pinto beans as a layer on top of the beef, sprinkled with bacon bits, and added some shredded cheese on top of the potatoes. I like this recipe because you can do so much with it as far as flavoring.

  • Recipe is pretty good and quick. Instead of mashing the potatoes, I cut the raw potatoes (peeled) in round thin slices (Scalloped) mixed in a mushroom soup and spreaded on top of the beef mixture(Cooked beef, pasta, carrots, corn, peas, beans and tomato soup). Tasted excellent and my husband and kids loves it.

  • This is a quick meal to make and it was very tasty. Well, it was either noodles or the mashed potatoe because thats just too much starch for my family so I went with intant potatoes. Also used 1 1/2 lbs. of ground beef. Added green beans to the mix and used the instant onion soup mix but added some low sodium beef broth as it was turning a little dry. Also, I used a large cast iron skillet to simmer everything and after topping with the potatoes I just popped the iron skillet into the oven to bake. Next time I will add some shredded cheddar to top the potatoes.

  • My husband was really skeptical, this is not real shepherds pie, but he loved it. I halved the recipe for two but needed to add a little more water to cook the macaroni. I used homemade onion soup mix from this site (easy to half) and also added a little milk and cornstarch to thicken it up before baking it. I made homemade mashed potatos using 3 and it all fit really well in my small round corningware dish. Topped with a bit of cheese too. NO LEFT OVERS :)

  • I really had high hopes for this recipe But I found it quite dry. Only changes I made were to use leftover homemade mashed potatoes and added some frozen mixed veggies and cheese. It was a little better for leftovers when I added some beef gravy. I wouldnt make this again, though.

  • My family loves this Super easy Our 5 year old daughter calls it "Potato Cake". I add 1 cup frozen peas and use rotelle noodles (thats what I happened to have on hand the first time I made this). Always comes out good. Thanks for sharing this one.Very easy to tweak for a gluten free meal too.

  • Turned out really good I was surprised at how good it was - and everyone loved it, even my VERY picky 18-month old :)

  • Simple comfort food great for a busy cook Thanks so much Cathy

  • Im giving this recipe three stars because my husband really liked it. I found it bland and dry and didnt really enjoy it. I will make it again though, since my husband really liked it. Maybe it just needs a little tweaking to appeal to me. Thanks though for submitting the recipe.

  • Easy and tasty. Bravo

  • I thought this recipe was pretty good. i added an onion to the beef, topped w/ garlic mashed potaotes and melted some cheddar cheese on top at the end...this added alot good base to a good comfort food recipe. :)

  • Very simple and very good I had to use regular onion soup mix and egg noodles because thats all I had. This will be in our regular rotation...so glad I tried it

  • Yum I really liked this recipe. I followed some of the other suggestions and added extra (instant) mashed potatoes, 1 chopped red potato, corn, carrots and cheddar cheese on top. My fiance (who is generally a very picky eater) loved it.

  • A huge hit Best part was that between this & Marthas Veg. Beef Soup, I got 2 meals from nearly identical ingredients. Didnt have noodles; used old frozen hash browns. Added frozen mixed vegetables. Couldnt be an easier recipe.

  • I try not to rate anything unless I tried it as written, I was tempted to add to this but I didnt. I gave it three stars because my crew likes boring bland food and there was no leftovers, I though it was awful.

  • Great Comfort Food I followed several rater suggestions: added slice onion, garlic powder and worchester sauce. Cooked the noodles til al dente. When assembling, added cheese between the beef mixture and mashed potatoes (6 cups covered 9x13). Got raves reviews Its a keeper

  • Needed dinner in a pinch one night, whipped this up and it was a big hit My husband and 1 yr old daughter loved it. I didnt have the beef stew mix, so I used a can of cream of celery and reduced the hot water by 1/2cup. I added a little cayenne pepper to the meat/soup/noodle mix. After adding the potatoes, I sprinkled shredded cheddar and the paprika over the whole thing. It was SO good Ill be making this again.

  • Reheats well for lunch and even freezes well.

  • I really liked this one. Instead of the onion soup mix I used cream of mushroom soup. Very good and a family pleaser

  • This is a very good recipe I added a little more potato than what is called for here. My boyfriend loved it and wanted the leftovers for lunch the next day.

  • Very good and simple

  • Great dish especially if youre hungry. 14 yr old son gave it a 4*. Sauteed onion with the beef. Couldnt find beef-onion soup mix so I combined onion soup mix with beef boullion powder. Added canned (x2) mushrooms to the mix in the skillet. Used powdered mash on top. Cheap, filling, flavorful meal.Note: left-overs had much more flavor, taste

  • Pretty good, My daughter doesnt like Shepherds Pie so the second time I made this I cooked the beef mixture as directed but added 2 garlic cloves, then added 2 tbspns of floor with a cup of milk, cooked it over a low heat and cooked the potatoes on the side (not boxed) then it was a huge hit My picky teenage daughter even went back for seconds and that NEVER happens Thanks for the idea

  • Yummy We loved this recipe. Definately a keeper. We also added some veggies. Will use again.

  • Very easy. variations - used more noodles (1.5 total cups), added layer of corn layer of beans, fresh cut up tomatoes and zucchini (cooked a little with the meat),instant potatoes for 8 servings, and cheddar cheese on top. Fantastic

  • I have made this reipe several times since viewing it and it goes over great everytime Knorr makes a beef noodle with meatballs dry mix. Works great.

  • I thought this was a great recipe, and my family loved itI substituted the soup mix with grilled onions and it turned out great.

  • I rated this a 4 only because I changed/added some things for a better flavor. Very tasty - a nice twist on the old version.I used 1/2 beef broth and 1/2 water and I cooked the macaroni with the hamb and broth for 10 minutes. At 5 minutes the macaroni was still hard. I added corn to the hamb mixture and I sprinkled some Colby/Jack cheese on top of the mashers. Without the beef broth and cheese it would have been a little bland for my family.

  • I altered the recipe. I added string beans to the meat. Also instead of plain noodles I used mac and cheese and layered it. On top of the mashed potatoes I added shredded cheddar, and sprinkled grated parm. cheese. But what I think adds a nice touch is, when its done baking, put it in the broiler. Just long enough for the cheese to get a bit crisp, and bubbly brown. It looks nicer and taste better

  • Easy and good. I added some chopped carrots to the meat mixture and used onion soup mix because thats all I could find. My family loved it, definately a keeper.

  • A big hit with the family. i used the leftovers from the previous night, real mashed potatoes and some roasted carrots. yum

  • Not too bad, a little dry. If I make this again I will omit the noodles.

  • We added mixed veggies, and all we could find for dry beef noodle mix was pasta roni stroganoff, we used 1/2 the noodles and seasoning and put the other 1/2 in the cupboard for the next time, because my family was suprisingly pleased with this simple meal.

  • We enjoyed it but I didnt have any onion soup mix so i used spices, onions and garlic to season it, but was a little bland still. I had to use twice as much potatoes as it called for and twice the noodles as well. Will make again but maybe use cream of "something" next time.

  • Great, easy recipe that is kid friendly. I used ground turkey and the onion soup mix added enough flavor. Topped with shredded cheddar cheese, this is a keeper Thank you.

  • It was good however nothing really spectacular about it. If you would like just something quick for dinner, it is perfect. Thanks.

  • Very quick, easy and delicious

  • I dont know what all the fuss is about except that this is easy. Not much flavor and was disappointed. Next time, I will have to doctor it up severely...maybe some tomato sauce, more seasoning, more noddles, definitely needs veggies. Overall, very bland. This would be something Id use again if very desperate and have the ingredients on hand.

  • The recipe would have been better without the soup mix, made everything a bit too salty, but otherwise very delicious and very filling.

  • This recipe is a variation on an old favorite of mine. Its VERY simple to make, and is something the whole family can enjoy. This variation is more colorful and less bland than other kinds of shepherds pie. I love it

  • Tastes Better than it looks

  • I myself am very picky when it comes to what I will and wont eat. I enjoyed this except for the beef w/ onion soup mix. I just used beef buillon cubes instead. Still very delicious

  • Was very good made it for the family and they all wanted more. Will make again

  • We absolutely LOVE this recipe We do add worchister sauce, cheese, corn and some peas We think the cheese taste best between the meat and mash potatoes.

  • I thought this was pretty good for a quick, inexpensive week night meal. I doubled the recipe for my family of 5 + leftovers and had a really full 9x13 pan. I used regular onion soup and 2 bouillon cubes. Wanted to make homemade mashed potatoes but in a time crunch used boxed. Didnt measure the amount of potatoes I put on top, just piled them on. I would say if your meat mix is a little salty just cut back on the salt in the potatoes. It balances out well that way. One last thing I put a few pats of butter on top the potatoes.

  • My entire family of picky eaters loved it. I was interesting, it was bland AND spicy. Im use to it the tastes being incorporated into everything, like a marinade the noodles were the most bland, but regardless, it is something I would and will make again with experiments in tweaking.

  • Used about 2x the potatoes (we LOVE them) and a bit more meat (I had 1.3 lbs). It was wonderful. Good ol comfort food. Husband & I had for dinner & lunch the next day. We both loved it. Also, had misc stuff I wanted to use up - so put shaved parm cheese in potatoes, cheddar cheese & fried onions on top. With or without these additions it would have been great. Easy

  • Wow Such an easy and inexpensive recipe. I was absolutely amazed at how easy this was, and how well the flavors blended together. This is definitely a great weeknight dinner since it doesnt take long at all to make.

  • This was a very easy and yummy recipe that I was able to make using ingredients I usually keep on hand. I substituted ground turkey for the ground beef, used 3 cups of instant mashed potatoes instead of 2, and sprinkled shredded Cheddar cheese over the top before baking. Delicious

  • So easy and so good I do add a little tomato paste, garlic salt, and pepper to it and put a can of peas and carrots in there too. Also I use Bob Evans ready mashed potatoes and use a smaller dish. so yummy

  • This was great I was looking for something new to do with ground beef and it worked out well, I made a couple of changes (based on what I had on hand). I added some chopped onion to the ground beef when I browned it and used garlic & herb soup mix instead of onion soup mix.

  • This was good-- I added a can of corn to the mashed potatoes, and some sprinkled cheese on top. I still felt the beef needed more flavor, however... I will play around with this recipe and see what I come up with. But my boyfriend liked it, and he doesnt like much

  • This was the best thing Ive ever tasted I did put a layer of shredded carrots and a can of string beans on the meat mixture and used garlic mashed boxed potatoes on top with cheese. It was sooooooo yummy Thanks for the recipe

  • I love this recipe I love the beef onion mix and the noodles I add corn and make way more potatoes then called for, but always refer to the original recipe. My family loves it and so do guests

  • Both my husband and I loved this recipe This is definitely a keeper

  • A great way to use up leftover mashed potatoes. I didnt have beef with onion soup mix, so I used a packet of onion soup mix and a beef boullion cube. I also added a can of corn. This was a tasty dish.

  • So Easy.. and tastes 10 times better then I thought it was going to. I made it with boxed potatoes.. and added a bit of cheese on top :)

  • This is type of recipe i love i did double the pasta in it and add a can of mushrooms. like to be able to adapt recipes...makes them GREAT there was very little left by the time we finished...only 2 of us and hes kind of picky easy to fix after working all day

  • This is a great one

  • I also added corn, green beans and carrots to this mixture, and as I couldnt find beef onion soup, I used beef gravy along with other seasonings to flavor and thicken this. As for the Shepherds Pie name comment, whenever made with beef, Ive always heard it referred to as Cowboy Pie. I think that if you were in England, Shepherd would be lamb only, but in US beef is commonly used.

  • This was so delicious and easy Grilled onions and cheese on top makes it even more delicious I used a 9X9 pan so there was volume to the dish & made it with mashed potatos not out of the box.

  • This is one recipe that I didnt have to tweek. I doubled the recipe and it fit perfectly into the 9 x 13 pan. I did add green beans to the hamburger mix and cheese on top. My family absolutely LOVED this one YUM-O

  • This Dish was excellent. My husband finished 2 huge plates of it

  • My family loves this recipe It is also very easy to prepare

  • I made the recipe exactly as it was and it was good. The noodles were cooked perfectly -- they were actually soft so I cannot imagine cooking them first. My family liked it -- it was quick and easy.

  • Great recipe I love the versatility you have with it, according to family taste or whats on hand. Like others I added veggies and cheese. I am already thinking of what other options there are on additions to this. Thanks

  • I add frozen mixed veggies as well. This recipe is always a big hit.

  • Love the base of this recipe. I only had the onion soup mix so I added 4 bullion cubes. I also thought it needed some vegis so I added peas, carrots, green beans, and corn. I also added onion and garlic to the meat while it was cooking. I wanted a saucier dish so I added 1 sm. can of tomato paste and a 1/2 cup of ketchup, and a tbls. of prepared mustard. I had to add an extra cup of water to the meat and mac mixture to allow everything to meld together. To the instant potatoes I added a pkg of Mc Cormicks 4 cheese potato seasoning. I topped it with a half cup of cornflake crumbs mixed with garlic salt, parsley, pepper and a tbls. of oil. I took a pic before everyone finished devouring it. YUM Thanks Cathy for inspiring me to even make dinner last night.

  • This is a really simple recipe. I added corn on the top. My husband dont like instant potatoes and even he liked it. :)

  • This was really easy and fast too. I made 2 small changes. I doubled the noodles, and I made some extra potatoes. I was really really suprised that it really didnt need any extra seasoning. The soup packet was perfect. Thanks for a great weeknight recipe

  • Very tasty I seasoned the hamburger a bit w/ garlic powder & the paprika while it cooked. I also added a can of corn & a can of carrots to the mixture before putting in the baking dish. I topped w/ some shredded cheese, then the potatoes & cooked for 18 minutes - it is delish

  • AMAZING My husband asks me to make this almost every night. lol

  • I followed Alissas recommendations and my family loved this. I was worried the noodles would not cook in the oven so I did cook them a little longer on the stove top and they were a bit over cooked so I would recommend cooking them on the stove top for 4-5 minutes as directed by the recipe.
